Exporting Data Using Version 2 and Version 1 Export

note

If you are using the Technology Intelligence Platform version of IT Visibility’s export, information in this section is not applicable to you. Instead, see IT Visibility Data Export Using Technology Intelligence Platform. To check whether you are using Technology Intelligence Platform or Pre-Technology Intelligence Platform version, go to the Data Export page (IT Visibility > Data Exports). If you see two buttons for exporting—a Create Export button and a Create Export (Beta) button—you are using a Pre-Technology Intelligence Platform version (export version 1 or version 2). If you only see the Create Export button, you are either on the Technology Intelligence Platform version or export version 3. For related information, see Upgrading to the Export Version 3 of IT Visibility.

To navigate to the data export capability in IT Visibility, go to the Data Export page (IT Visibility > Data Exports). The Data Export page opens with a list of existing exports. This table will be empty if no data export jobs have previously been executed. From this table you will be able to see for all exports:

  • ID—Unique identifier for the export job

  • Requested—Date and time that the export was initiated

  • Requested By—Flexera One login ID of the user who initiated the export job

  • Status—Status of the export job such as Calculating, In Progress, Completed, Failed, and Canceled

  • Actions—Available actions for the export job

The following topics describe the IT Visibility data export features:

Starting a New Export

This section describes how to kick off an export from IT Visibility.

To start a new export job:

  1. Go to the Data Export page (IT Visibility > Data Exports).
  2. Click Create Export or Create Export (Beta). A new export job initiates, and the following notification appears: “Your export is submitted for processing.”
info

Only one export job can be run at a time. Clicking Create Export while another export is still in progress displays the following warning message “Warning! An export is already in progress. Creating a new export will cancel the existing report. Do you wish to proceed?” Click Yes to cancel the running job and start a new job or click No to cancel the new export.

After an export job runs, the Status column on the Data Export page will update to show the progress of the job. The job will first run a calculation to establish the size of the export before proceeding to export the data. After the export is in progress, the status will show an estimated time to complete the job.

Canceling an Export

If you want to cancel an export that is running, you can cancel the export on the Data Export page.

To cancel an export job:

  1. Go to the Data Export page (IT Visibility > Data Exports).
  2. Click Create Export or Create Export (Beta). A new export job initiates, and the following notification appears: “Your export is submitted for processing.”

Click Yes to cancel the export. The following notification appears confirming that the export has been canceled: “Success, your export has been canceled.”

Downloading an Export

After an export has completed, you can download the export files to your local machine.

To download an export job:

  1. Go to the Data Export page (IT Visibility > Data Exports).
  2. Click Create Export or Create Export (Beta). A new export job initiates, and the following notification appears: “Your export is submitted for processing.”

The export files are downloaded in a compressed folder to your machine.
